What is Google GMMXLE ?

Wondering what MMXL on Google Homepage is? This came up on 1-1-11. This is Google's way of wishing us a Happy New Year and their claim to be the best in 2011. Wonder how? Here is the explanation. Roman format M - 1000 X - 10 I - 1 and if you look at the logo carefully you could see the message is GMMXIe and not GMMXLe , so the fifth character is I and not L. So MMXI indicates 1000+1000+10+1 i.e 2011. MMXI - 2011 Well, Google might have thought in a different way also, enclosing 2011 in G and e, they symbolically indicates they are going to rule the internet in 2011.

Google - I'm Feeling Lucky: Countdown Revealed!

Google has put up another kind of easter egg this time, which is yet unexplained to a huge mass of users. The mystery this time is that a countdown begins as shown below once the user clicks on “I’m Feeling Lucky” without typing anything in the search bar! The feature “I’m Feeling Lucky”, which usually takes users directly to the top result for their query, has been programmed to display a ticker when no words are entered into the search box. Google spokesperson and other officials are silent on this countdown mystery. Initial speculation was that the search giant was giving a warning, well in advance, for the end of the world. Simple calculations indicate that the number will fall to zero in 4 days – around the turn of the New Year. Let's use Microsoft Excel to see how this works. Make sure both the cells A1 & A2 are in General Format In cell A1 type the below: =DATEVALUE("1/1/2010")-NOW() In the cell below (A2) press F2 and put = and then point your mouse to the above cell (i.e A1) then enter*24*60*60 and press enter you get seconds countdown to the New Year. Cell A1 needs to be recalculated (again and again). It does not refreshe automatically. Once cell A1 is recalculated A2 gives you the number as what is on the Google’s search page. Some other "easter eggs", as they are known, include: • Type "recursion" into the search box and it suggests "recursion" as an alternative, sending you on a loop of clicks that all generate identical results. • Using the arrow keys, type "up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A" while using the firm's RSS feed reader, and a little ninja appears on the left of the screen, which turns partially blue. • The Mars feature of Google Earth 5 allows users to explore the surface of the Red Planet – and chat to the locals. Typing "Meliza" into the search box takes you to an area of the planet where you can strike up a conversation with a Martian.

Google: I'm Feeling Lucky!

Ever gave a thought, why we have an option to click "I'm feeling lucky!" along with every Google search option? Well.. here is the reason!Lets take an example! We tried with typing 'Dummy Essentials' in google and clicked on Google search, like most of us do everytime.

It took us to these search results.. we got all the possible results related to this blog, dummy essentials:

Now lets try a more specific search by picking up the second option from the results page. We type "Dummy Essentials + 60 Run" in the search bar and click normally as we do on Google search.

This is what we get this time: A specific search result , getting the second result to first place this time.

Now how about trying the same search by clicking I'm Feeling Lucky! this time? Lets give it a shot. So here we go: We type in "Dummy Essentials + 60 Run" and click on "I'm Feeling Lucky" button.

And whoa! we are directed to the url for the blog which contains the matter that we are looking for. We dont need to search through the results and then go to the particular site, it takes you directly to the first link that google would have offered in the search results page! Cool, isn't it?
